Team Surrey Women’s Football player Beth Humphrey has helped England make history at the Women’s 6-a-side World Cup in Croatia, returning home with a bronze medal.
Beth represented England at the tournament on 16 October, as the nation competed at a Women’s 6-a-side World Cup for the very first time.
After defeats in their opening two group matches, England produced a brilliant response with statement victories over Slovakia, ranked third in the world, and Czechia. With other results falling their way, England progressed from the group stages and secured a place in the semi-finals.
There they faced world number ones USA, who had won the competition three times in a row. England pushed the defending champions all the way but narrowly missed out on a place in the final following a 1-0 defeat.
Beth and her England teammates responded in the third-place play-off, securing victory to claim a World Cup bronze medal.
The result marked a historic achievement for England, representing their best-ever finish in international mini football and an incredible first appearance at the Women’s 6-a-side World Cup.
A huge congratulations to Beth and the whole England team!
